Volunteers Needed

Once again our Annual Plant Sale and Silent Auction was a huge success. The Atrium at the Gellert Community Centre in Georgetown South has proven to be an excellent venue. There is ample parking for shoppers, and the Atrium becomes transformed into a beautiful garden centre and shop. There is also plenty of space to accommodate the anxious shoppers who line up well in advance of the beginning of the sale.

This event would not be such a success without the help of the many, many volunteers who assist in numerous ways … digging up and potting plants, gathering donations for the sale and auction, helping to set up and organize the materials as well as those then returned to shop. Sincere thanks go out to all the wonderful, hard working volunteers as well as to the members of the Plant Sale planning committee.

Also, many businesses were generous in donating for our cause. A list of these businesses are below. Please support the businesses who supported us, and let them know you are a Hort member who appreciates their donations.

Mother Nature was reluctant to provide spring weather when we first began planning for the Plant Sale, in fact we wondered if the snow would ever melt. It seemed doubtful that there would be any plants far enough along to be able to dig them up. Ultimately we had a grand selection of wonderful plants so all our worry was for naught!

Next year’s Plant Sale and Silent Auction will be in the same location at the Gellert Community Centre on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 6:00 pm so mark your calendars as this is an event you won’t want to miss!
